The 1850 census was the first federal census to list the names of each member of the household, their ages, and the place of birth for each person listed. We have figured the year of birth, based on the ages given. The dates of actual birth may not agree with the figured date of birth. It depends on when the person was born and on what date the census was taken. The families were given a number by the census taker. All of the Bobbitt families of Pulaski County were counted on July 24, 1850. We are also stating the relationship of each head of household to James and Rebecca Bobbitt.
Family # 153, was Joseph Bobbitt who was a son of William and Permelia (Cragg) Bobbitt. Joseph was born in 1820. He married Polly Ann Barron on July 28, 1848. Joseph was the first grandson of James and Rebecca (Day) Bobbitt.
Family # 302, was William Bobbitt who was a son of John and Nancy (Nuckolls) Bobbitt of Grayson county Virginia. William Bobbitt married Nancy Bobbitt in Pulaski County Kentucky. Nancy Bobbitt was a daughter of Randolph and Rachel (Philips) Bobbitt of Grayson County Virginia. Nancy Bobbitt was a first cousin once removed, to her husband, William Bobbitt. Both William and Nancy were born in 1816. The ages and dates in the census records are in error. William was a nephew, and Nancy was a grand-niece to James and Rebecca Bobbitt. Both William and Nancy were born in Virginia.
Family # 309, was John Bobbitt who was a son of James and Rosanna Bobbitt of Grayson County Virginia. James Bobbitt was a son of John Bobbitt of Pittsylvania County Virginia, a nephew to Captain William Bobbitt, and a first cousin to James Bobbitt. Rosanna Bobbitt was a daughter of Captain William Bobbitt, a sister to James Bobbitt, and a first cousin to her husband, John Bobbitt. John married Patsy Stiggal Hays, the widow of Samuel Hays, of Pulaski County Kentucky. John and Patsy were listed as living in both Pulaski and Lincoln counties in Kentucky. John was born in Virginia. The 1850 census is in error and it is corrected in all subsequent census records. John died in Lincoln county in 1878.
