Major William Bobbitt, born in Warren County, North Carolina, son of Drury and Lavina Park Bobbitt. Moved to Tennessee, was a friend of President James Polk. His first wife was Sarah Woody of Orange County, North Carolina. Sarah died in 1834 and William married Elizabeth Oliphant of Maury County, Tennessee., They were married on June 8, 1836. In the second family there were four sons and four daughters, all lived to maturity. Major Bobbitt's family is one of the great Bobbitt families of our history. Descendants today live throughout the United States.
