Roderick Bobbett traveled quite a path to reach San Augustine County Texas. He was born in Amherst County, Virginia a son of Uriah and Polly Alley Bobbitt. Most of his ancestors in the direct line settled in Virginia (Grayson County) and in West Virginia in (Monroe County). Uriah Bobbitt moved to Tipton County Tennessee with his family in the early 1820's. From Tipton County the family moved to Leake County, Mississippi. In 1841 or 1842 the family moved to San Augustine County, Texas where descendants are living to this present day.
The 1850 census was the first taken in the state of Texas. It is doubtful that it was a good census, however, a look at all of our other Bobbitt census records indicates that only members of the above family were born in Texas before 1850.
