VIRGINIA - CENSUS OF 1850
NICHOLAS COUNTY

Nicholas County was formed in 1818 from Greenbrier County. In 1863 Nicholas County was in the State of West Virginia. The first Bobbitt family to live in Nicholas County was Greenville Bobbitt. The first Bobbitt to rear his family in Nicholas County was Rufus Bobbitt. He was followed by his brother James Hill Bobbitt. Both were sons of John and Permelia Bobbitt.

Norfolk County was formed in 1636 from Lower Norfolk County. The first Bobbitt family in this county moved to the county from North Carolina in 1845. Believe he was a son of William Bobbitt of Warren County, North Carolina.
