Nicholas County was formed in 1818 from Greenbrier County. In 1863 Nicholas County was in the State of West Virginia. The first Bobbitt family to live in Nicholas County was Greenville Bobbitt. The first Bobbitt to rear his family in Nicholas County was Rufus Bobbitt. He was followed by his brother James Hill Bobbitt. Both were sons of John and Permelia Bobbitt.
