VIRGINIA - CENSUS OF 1850
Pittsylvania County, continued.

Family # 493, counted September 19, 1850.

Tabby Bobbitt             65 (1785) Virginia
Luda Bobbitt               28 (1822) Virginia
Mary Bobbitt              25 (1825) Virginia

Tabby Bobbitt who is apparently a widow, is a mystery in the family of Pittsylvania County.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Rockbridge County was formed in 1778 from Augusta and the now discontinued county of Boetourt. In 1819 John and Permelia Bobbitt moved into this county and lived there until 1827. There are no records of any Bobbitt families living in this county other than the family of John and Permelia Bobbitt. Milton Bobbitt married Susan Davis on February 2, 1830 and is listed here with his family.

Family # 470, counted August 19, 1850.

Milton Bobbitt                         43 (1807) Virginia
Elizabeth (Davis) Bobbitt         35 (1815) Virginia
Susan Bobbitt                         19 (1831) Virginia
Martha J. Bobbitt                    16 (1834) Virginia
Morgan Leftwich Bobbitt        15 (1835) Virginia
William Bobbitt                      11 (1839) Virginia

Family # 342, counted September 2, 1850.

Milton Bobbitt                           45 (1805) Virginia
Elizabeth (Davis) Bobbitt           35 (1815) Virginia
Susan Bobbitt                           19 (1831) Virginia
Martha Bobbitt                          17 (1833) Virginia
Leftwich Bobbitt                       14 (1836) Virginia
William Bobbitt                         12 (1838) Virginia
Susan Davis (sister-in-law)         47 (1803) Virginia

The family was counted two times. Milton Bobbitt was a carpenter and had apparently moved to another location when he was counted the second time. The information in the first census isthe more correct one.

Milton Bobbitt was a son of John and Permelia Bobbitt. The exact proof has not been established, but the evidence is too great to leave much doubt.
