Notes for WILLIAM BOBBITT, OF GLAMORGANSHIRE, WALES:

BIOGRAPHY

The history of the Bobbitt family in the U.S.A. starts with William

Bobbitt, born in the Glamorganshire area of Wales.

William Bobbitt's grave site is believed to be under the old Norfolk and

Western Railroad Station in Petersburg, Virginia. The "Ferry Chapel"

was a ferry boat area use to ferry people across the Appottomox River,

there was a Chaplet near the ferry used for a place of worship with a

cemetery surrounding it. This is where William Bobbitt and his wife

worshiped.

There is a legend in the Family that says all Bobbitt's descend from three brothers who came from Liverpole, England to the Virginia Colony.

Part of this legend is true, the Clan did sprout from three brothers, but they all three were born in the Virginia Colony.

There father William Bobbitt and his wife Joanna "Anna" Sturdivant arrived in the Virginia Colony in the year 1673 for that was when the original land grant from Governor of the Virginia Colony was given to William, dated October 27, 1673.

The original land grant document is on file in the Virginia State Archives in Richmond, Virginia.

The land was in Charles City County, Virginia, which is in the present day Prince George, County, Virginia. The plantation was located in the present day City of Hopewell, Virginia

5.  THOMAS6 BOBBITT (RANDOLPH5, JAMES4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, JOHN1)5 was born 1783 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and died April 18, 1859 in New Antioch, Clinton County, Ohio.  He married MILDRED DALTON December 09, 1815 in Painsville, Lake County, Ohio.  She was born 1800 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and died September 13, 1864 in New Antioch, Clinton, Ohio.

Notes for THOMAS BOBBITT:

Thomas Bobbitt left Virginia around 1854 when he claimed the eighty acres of land awarded to him for his service in the war of 1812. He was 62 years old when he came to Ohio. All of his children were born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

It seems that all of the children ended up in Clinton County, Ohio

After he secured his 80 Acres Thomas sent his son James back to Pittsylvania County, Virginia., to bring his wife to their new home. Mildred Bobbitt was 62 years old at the time and rode horse back all the way to Snow Hill Clinton, County, Ohio, Snow Hill is about 2-3 miles North of New Vienna, Clinton County, Ohio on Rt. 73.

After Thomas Bobbitt died Mildred lived with her two remaining children in the home Thomas had built of Logs, for many years the house had a dirt floor.

Now all that remains is the place were the home was.

It is located on Clark Rd., about 50 yards from Steel Rd. on the East side, in Green Twp., Clinton County, Ohio just off North Rt. 73 North of New Vienna, Clinton County, Ohio

This is the same house that later George Edward Bobbitt raised his children.

George installed a wood slap floor and built a small barn to house a milk cow and few pigs and one old horse. When the children Jesse, Charles, and Frank were in their teens, the boys built from scrap lumber a wagon and then all were able to ride the few miles to church and into town. The family attended the Cowan Creek Baptists Church located at the corner of Steel and Farmers Road in Clinton County. Steel road at the time was called Bobbitt Road as it was made by the food path the family took to church meetings and later by the wagon tracks. In time it became a short road that led from Farmers road over to Rt. 73 which runs between New Vienna and Wilmington.

6.  LEWIS7 BOBBITT (THOMAS6, RANDOLPH5, JAMES4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, JOHN1)6 was born 1816 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and died April 1861 in Jackson County, Franklin Twp. Ohio.  He married CATHARINE CRIDER January 20, 1840 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.  She was born 1816 in Pittsylvania, County, Virginia, and died 1890.

Notes for LEWIS BOBBITT:

Lewis was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia the son of Thomas and Mildred Dalton Bobbitt.

As of this date Jan. 2000 I have not been able to find out much about Lewis Bobbitt except that he died in Franklin Twp., Jackson County Ohio. From his will It is assumed that he rented the small farm he lived on, or else was a tennet farmer for someone else.

He had to come to Ohio  in 1845 for that is when his son George Edward, the first Bobbitt to be born in this State was born.

Lewis it seems followed his Uncle Thomas Bobbitt Jr.,to Ohio, but got no further then Jackson County. Thomas may have been in Jackson County at this time but we know later he went to Clinton County, where he had the large farm.

Child of LEWIS BOBBITT and CATHARINE CRIDER is:

7.                i.       GEORGE EDWARD8 BOBBITT, b. March 1845, Jackson County, Ohio; d. September 04, 1934, Clinton County, Green Twp. Ohio.

Generation No. 7

7.  GEORGE EDWARD8 BOBBITT (LEWIS7, THOMAS6, RANDOLPH5, JAMES4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2, JOHN1)7 was born March 1845 in Jackson County, Ohio, and died September 04, 1934 in Clinton County, Green Twp. Ohio.  He married MARTHA ELIZABETH TAYLOR May 30, 1874 in Clinton County, Ohio.  She was born October 12, 1855 in Randolph County, Indiana, and died November 17, 1931 in Clinton County, Green Twp. Ohio.

Notes for GEORGE EDWARD BOBBITT:

George was the first Bobbitt be born in the State of Ohio two brothers and sister before him were born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

He came to Ohio before 1874 and settled down in Green Twp., Clinton County, Ohio. He, we think rented a house on Clark Rd. just off Rt. 73 North of New Vienna and there he raised 11 children.

He probably followed his Uncle to Clinton County from Jackson County as his Uncle Thomas Bobbitt Jr., owned over two hundred acres of good farm land on what is now Steel Rd. The land was in Washington Twp and part in Green Twp. Thomas gave the land for the Cowen’s Creek Baptist Church and was among the first to have family buried in the Cowan's Creek Cemetery.

George's first four children did not live but a short time after birth and they were interned in the original old section of the Cemetery. When the Cemetery was enlarged the children were moved to the location that is now marked by  George and  Martha's marker.

George worked as a hired hand for the farmers in the area and was gone many times for months at a time. It seemed that Martha always gave birth after he was home for a short time. In his later years he worked for only the farmers that were close to his home and in the town of New Vienna, Clinton County, Ohio

The family would walk about two miles to attend the Cowan's Creek Church each Sunday. It is safe to say that the trip was also taken on other days of the week.

All of George's children live in and around Clinton County and not further then Greene County. Ohio

Notes for MAX LINCOLN BOBBITT:

BIOGRAPHY

Max started to work at the National Cash Register Co in Dayton Ohio in

Nov. of 1953. He started to date a woman by the name of Nellie and

would each day walk to the other end of the work place to talk to her,

each day a group of four girls that always ate lunch together would

say, "There he goes to check in again". There came a day in late Dec.

of 1953 that he turned to them and said "OK, you think I have to check

in do you, well which one of you want to go out this Friday night".

None of then said anything so he ask the pretties of the four "How

about you, or do you just talk allot" She agreed to go to a drive-in

movie. From then on I checked in with her. I worked no far from where

she worked and the job I was required  to use a air hose to blow oil

and dirt off of small pieces. I would use the hose in short and long

blast; everybody in the area could here it; until she would turn

around and look at me then I would wink at her. The people got so that

every time I went to the air hose they would holler at her to turn

around. We started going steady, I took her down to her home in Ky.,

one weekend and in July of 1955 we married. As of this date Jan.2000

it has been 44 years, two children with seven grand-children later. It

all was her fault, she teased me, I showed her!!

We have traveled in all the States of the Union, and have been to Las Vegas many times, went to Niagara Falls on our honeymoon and returned so far seven times. Our travels have mostly been by the automobile, with many trips taking three weeks to more then a month. The places we have been and the sites we have seen are to many to mention. The places we have stayed in  have been from pig sty to Hotel Suites.

The last 24 years of my working life I taught School, the best job anyone could have. Wanda spend 15 years in the J.C. Penney store in Riverside, Ohio (which is no longer there), and her working gave us the means to travel as we did. Our dream trips were to The lovely State of Hawaii twice, for two weeks each time.

Wanda and I have our burial lots at the Milledgeville cemetery, in section 8 lot 17.
