"Bobbitt told him he wanted the banker to go the same route as the poorest Negro, and demanded to see the letter. The letter said to pay. The banker wasn't trying to dodge anything The friend was. He paid, too."

Other accounts of Tilford Bobbitt's devotion to duty and honesty on the job have given a clear account of a man determined to do the job. Tilford Bobbitt was an excellent fisherman and hunter himself. He loved sports, but also understood what Texas needed to do to protect the future for sportsmen.

"Has he (Bobbitt) been honest? "They quit offering me money pretty early in the game. Guess they thought I didn't have any sense. Never took a fine in the field, either. That's the judge's job. I just make the arrest."

After his retirement, Tilford Bobbitt spent much of his time fishing and hunting legally. He invented the "Bobbitt Bobbers" which are used for catching crappies. A newspaper account of this hobby said,

"For more than 25 years a man well known to most of the people in Denton County has fished with a-homemade bobber, or cork as some call it.

it Tilford Bobbitt and a friend, Doug Diggs, who owns the Lakeside Grocery at Lake Dallas, went into business and Bobbitt Bobbers, turned on a lathe out of sugar pine shipped in from Old Mexico, began to sell.

"Bobbitt who makes the bobbers in his spare time, because, as he quips, "All I've got is spare time," started using this type of bobber out of "laziness.

"The slender, elongated piece of wood, when equipped with a small hook and a heavy lead, will help you get unhooked from brush, Bobbitt explains."

Jo Kinley Bobbitt wife of Tilford Bobbitt died on December 17, 1963. After her death, Tilford visited with his children and was useful everywhere his visited. He died on May 6, 1970 at the age of 86. Both Tilford and his wife are burried in Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas.

Perhaps one of the best comments about the life of Tilford Oscar Bobbitt is one he made about himself, which is a tribute to his life of honesty.

"I have lots of friends, even among people I had to arrest".
