Creed and John Perry Bobbitt both served on the Union side in the war between the states.

Uriah Bobbitt was an excellent and imaginative blacksmith. In the period of time in which he lived, he was as essential to a community as the miller or carpenter. No one could farm or travel without the aid of a blacksmith. Uriah trained Creed, John and William to be good blacksmiths. In later years, Creed and William established a large and well known blacksmith service station in Decatur. John was not in good health and was unable to perform the duties of a blacksmith. John served as a clerk in a mercantile store and later became a partner in the business. Freelan was a cigar maker and in later years was an actor in a traveling company that offered family type entertainment. All the children were highly intelligent, had interesting personalities, and had the character that came from pioneer families who depended on God and hard work.

The children who lived to maturity married and mostly in Iowa.

The court house of Decatur Iowa burned in 1874 and with it most of the records of the Bobbitt family. The dates of marriage we have came from family and military records.

Uriah Bobbitt died on November 15, 1878. We are not certain of the year as the year date was damaged in the record. We do know that he was living in 1871 and that he died before 1879. Uriah died suddenly and was buried in a family cemetery in or near Leon Iowa.
