The records of Anson County, North Carolina, court house deeds, Vol. H-2 1801-1804 pp.I-564.
(P.323 - 394) William Bobbit to Thomas Gulledge, on February 6, 1802, 140 acres of land exclusive of ten acre run into, old survey of Jeremiah Deason, at present being part of tract granted Robert Jarman, containing 640 acres, dated January 22, 1773 and conveyed by him to John Jarman - Jonikins, William Bobbit, (deed also mentions tract of 200 acres a grant to Nathan Melton on September 8, 1795, lying middle prong Joneses Creek and William Rickett's third corner, the trace crossing at McKnishes Creek to Hurley's)
On page 331 and on the same day, the above deed was conveyed to William Bobbitt by Richard Wallace, for reasons that cannot be understood today. The deed is important in establishing the fact that William Bobbitt was in Anson County, and the fact that his son Lemuel Bobbitt signed the deed.
Sally (Bobbitt) Dearden who married James Dearden was also in Anson County. It is interesting to note that the Dearden family preceded the move of William Bobbitt and his family from North Carolina to South Carolina.
There are references in Anson County to numerous relatives of the Bobbitt family of Warren County, North Carolina.
Simon Harris married Martha Dearden in Warren County, North Carolina after 1786 and before 1790. He was a son of Charles and Rachael (Edgerton) Harris, and a brother to Patience Harris who married John Bobbitt, a son of Miles Bobbitt, and a brother to Elizabeth Harris who married Randolph Bobbitt, a brother of William Bobbitt.
Many of these same families were counted in the South Carolina 1810 census of Chesterfield County.
Most of the descendants of William and Susannah Bobbitt who carry the Bobbitt name, migrated to Alabama and Tennessee.
William Bobbitt born in 1761 is easily traced through the records and does not have to be confused with the other numerous William Bobbitt families of Warren and Franklin Counties. After William Bobbitt settled in South Carolina he never left the state and both he and Susannah died in South Carolina.
