After discovering this old record, I checked the Cliftons in Summer's Annals and found that William Bobbitt - John Clifton reference at page 713, a copy of which you sent to me. The Jennings's tradition is that John Clifton was the father of Sarah, that he lived in Clifton Forge, Virginia, on the James River, and died in the Revolutionary War. The Cock tradition is that the mother of these four children and Andrew Cock's second wife, was a Penelope Ward, the daughter of James Ward and Nancy Brown."

There are historical reasons for the Bobbitt family to know the Jennings family. They had close relationships in the records of Pittsylvania County Virginia. We believe that the sister of Captain William Bobbitt married a Jonathan Jennings. The Jennings family is believed to have migrated with the Bobbitts and others from Pittsylvania County to Grayson County.

There is no marriage record for William Bobbitt Junior to Nancy Clifton. Their marriage has been satisfactorily established and the marriage took place in 1792.

William Bobbitt Junior first appears in the tax lists of Grayson County in 1795. His first son was born in 1796 and as one would expect when this son was 16 years of age, he was listed in the tax list of 1812.

On August 1, 1805, in deed book 2, page 194, recorded in Grayson County is a record of William Bobbitt Junior.

"William Bobbitt Senior and Anne his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars, paid by the said William Bobbitt Junior, for a certain tract of land, containing one hundred and ten acres."

This deed was acknowledged by William Senior and Anne his wife in the April Court of 1806. In 1807 Anne Bobbitt died, and this is the last deed that was made by William and his wife Anne.

April 24, 1820 a deed was recorded in book 4, pages 160-161, by William Bobbitt Junior and his son, Randolph Bobbitt.

"William Bobbitt of Grayson County and Randolph Bobbitt of Grayson County, for forty dollars, a parcel of land, containing forty acres, in Grayson County on Big Reed island ......."
