This is another of those deeds in which a father is giving land to his son and wants the record to show legal title of the land. In 1823, Randolph Bobbitt moved to Pulaski County Kentucky. He gave power of attorney to his father, William Bobbitt, to sell this same land for him in 1824. The land was sold to his brother-in-law, George Hill, who had married Lucy Bobbitt, a sister of Randolph's. This deed was recorded in book 4, page 531.
"March 24, 1824, between Randolph Bobbitt of Pulaski County Kentucky, and George Hill of Grayson County Virginia, for three hundred dollars, a parcel of land containing forty acres of land on the waters of Big island.. Big Reed island River....
William Bobbitt, Attorney
for Randolph Bobbitt.
The family of Randolph and of William Bobbitt Junior was first listed in the 1820 census of Grayson County Virginia.
1 male 45 & over ( -1775) 2 females 10 16 (1804-1810)
Randolph Bobbitt: (born 1796, son of William)
1 male under 10 (1810-1820) 2 females under 10 (1810-1820)
1 male 16 - 24 (1796-1804) 1 female 16 - 26 (1796-1804)
At this point in 1820 we know that William Bobbitt and Nancy (Clifton Bobbitt) had three children. Randolph Bobbitt born 1796, Sarah Bobbitt who married Absolom Williams, and Lucy Bobbitt who married George Hill. I think there was another daughter who married William Thornbrough. Only Randolph, Lucy, and Sarah are accounted for in the 1820 census records.
In the 1830 census records there is a male who was not in the 1820 census. This census is for Grayson County Virginia.
1 male 20 - 30 (1800-1810) 1 female 40 - 50 (1780-1790)
1 male 50 - 60 (1770-1780)
I believe that this is an error and that the male here is William Bobbitt born in 1820, and should have been listed 10 - 15.
