Harris Bobbitt was the only son of Stephen and Celah Bobbitt to live his life in North Carolina. His brothers migrated to Tennessee, where they received bounty land for their service in the war of 1812.

Harris Bobbitt wrote his will on May 7, 1847. The will was recorded and probated in Warren County in Book 39, page 355, in November of 1847. The will mentions all of his living children and the names of the husbands of his married daughters. Parts of the lengthy and genealogically excellent will are copied here.

I loan to my wife, Pertheany Bobbitt, during her life, the land that I now live on, also three Negroes, namely, Everett, Rosetty, and Charles.

I loan to my son Kinchen Bobbitt, the tract of land, that I bought of Drumgole, also one Negro boy, by the name of Jim.

I loan to my son John R. Bobbitt, one Negro boy by the name of Washington .......

I loan to my son William H. Bobbitt, one Negro boy, by the name of George.

I loan to my daughter Elizabeth Bobbitt, who intermarried with Nat Shearin, one Negro.... by the name of Sillen....

I loan to my daughter Martha Bobbitt, who intermarried with Weldon E. Robertson, one Negro girl, by the name of Harriet ......

I loan to my daughter Julie Bobbitt who intermarried with David isles, one Negro girl by the name of Mealey ........

I loan to my daughter Lucy Bobbitt, and my daughter, Nancy Bobbitt, and my daughter, Tempie Bobbitt their proportinate part of my property....

I give and bequeath to my two sons, John R. Bobbitt and William Bobbitt, the tract of land that I now live on, after the death of my wife, Pertheany... William to have the house part .........

I nominate and appoint my son John R. Bobbitt and William H. Bobbitt, and David Isles, to be the whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament.          May 7, 1847.
