There is an unusual gap of six years in the births of the children. The pattern seems to prove the legend that Randolph first married Rachel Phillips in 1815, and then married Ellen Phillips in 1826. Ellen Phillips was a sister of Rachel. It is interesting to note that when William Bobbitt died, it was noted on his death certificate that his mother was "Ellen Phillips" from Virginia.
Margaret Bobbitt, who married her first cousin once removed, James Bobbitt, told her descendants that her mother was Rachel Phillips. The marriage bond recorded in Grayson County Virginia in 1815, gives the name of "Rachel Phillips". It is possible that her name was Rachel Ellen Phillips. If this was true, why then is there such a gap in the births of the children?
I am certain that Nancy Bobbitt, the eldest daughter of Randolph was the oldest female in the household in 1840. Nancy was born in 1816 and lived her life in Pulaski County Kentucky. She married William Bobbitt, her first cousin once removed. William was a brother of James Bobbitt, and both were sons of John and Nancy (Nuckolls) Bobbitt of Grayson County.
According to the Greenberry Bobbitt letters, Randolph Bobbitt moved to Howard County Missouri in 1843. Two brother-in-laws of Randolph, filed an affidavit in Lawrence County Missouri, recorded in box 1, number 5, dated November 4, 1845, which stated, that the heirs of William Bobbitt of Grayson County were: (William Bobbitt was father of Randolph Bobbitt.)
Randolph Bobbitt, of Pulaski County, Kentucky.
Sally (Bobbitt) Williams, wife of Absolam Williams, of Lawrence County, Missouri.
Lucy Bobbitt Hill, wife of George Hill, of Lawrence County, Missouri.
Actually there was another heir, named William Bobbitt, who was living in Grayson County Virginia, and moved to Howard County Missouri before 1850.
On March 12, 1846, Randolph Bobbitt married Jane Elkins, in Howard County Missouri. I suspect that Randolph Bobbitt moved to Missouri in 1843 and that his family in Lawrence County Missouri did not know that he had moved.
