Rufus Bobbitt 1826 - 1872 and his wife Mary Williams 1826 - 1865 were the first of the Bobbitt family to live in Nicholas County. The parents of Mary Williams, Elijah and Matilda (McCoy) Williams moved to the county shortly before Rufus married their daughter Mary. Rufus and Mary Bobbitt had eleven children, eight of whom lived to maturity and were highly thought of in the county and the various communities they lived in. There are numerous successful descendants now living throughout the United States. Descendants have lived in what is today Nicholas County West Virginia since 1844 to the present day.
