On May 12, 1972, Robert Lee was certainly feeling lonely and perhaps not very well physically. He spent the day writing many letters to family members and old friends. In a letter to me, he wrote:

Dear John: I am most grateful to you and Elna and Jim, as well as Billie and Tate and other members of the family, who are so kind and thoughtful during these terribly lonesome days through which I have passed since Belle left me. It seems most difficult to readjust to a new life; but when I really come to thinking about things, I have so many wonderful memories of her and others and so much for which to be thankful that it is hard to complain."

On July 19, 1972, Robert Lee wrote Lee Otis Bobbitt Junior, president of the Bobbitt reunion. The letter was especially good, and consisted of two pages. Part of the letter read:

"We are all indeed especially grateful to Grace Bobbitt and your good self as President, and all very especially to Dr. 0. H. and Helen, along with John Bobbitt and Billie and Tate Dalrymple, for their devotion and interest in members of the family in these family gatherings.

"Once again, my love and best wishes to all in attendance, and with fondest memories of dear old Uncle Bud, who was truly a great and good man, I am, most sincerely,

August 15, 1972, Robert Lee Bobbitt Junior, wrote all members of the family and his corresponding friends that his father was in Nix Hospital. Robert Lee had a fall in his room at the St. Anthony Hotel and apparently a slight stroke. He had an acute infection of the gall bladder. He was very sick and very weak.

On September 14, 1972, Judge Robert Lee Bobbitt died. It was less than a year after the death of his spouse, Mary Belle (Westbrook) Bobbitt. People from all walks of life sent numerous messages and tributes of this great man to his son Robert and his wife Elizabeth,
