"Many old-timers of Floyd County will remember Captain Bobbitt. He came to Floyd County in 1890 and settled on the section cornering the town of Sterley. He lived here for eight years and made his old dugout and tank marks which can still be found in this section. He played an important part in the organization of Floyd County, and was one of the men who voted in that famous election over the location of the Floyd County court house.

"About 1900, Captain Bobbitt left Floyd County and moved to the town of Plainview, which was then very small. He lived there several years and then moved back to Hill County. While here in the west, Captain Bobbitt took an active part in the betterment of man and his country. He stood out as a leader among the Baptists of this country for many years, having been Moderator of the Staked Plains Baptist Association at the time. Captain Bobbitt was an active church worker for over three quarters of a century, and was ever ready to defend what he thought was right. He was a man having decided views on political matters, and ready to defend them. He was a man in favor of law and order, a man of sterling character, a man of strong force. He was a man who prayed and a man who worked.

"He held to the old Southern School of strict training for his children, and was able to transmit that same belief to his sons and daughter, with the result that his grandchildren, and great grandchildren are the same kind of good citizens. They have won places of honor in the state and community. Captain Bobbitt's anchorage was safe in the affairs of both this and the next world. .

"Captain Bobbitt was one who fought for the south during the War between the States, yet he put his hand to the plow and helped to make the United States a better place to live.

"At his request, Captain Bobbitt was buried in his confederate army uniform.

"Governor Dan Moody of Texas was one of the honorary pallbearers. 11

The Hillsboro Evening Mirror of Hillsboro Texas carried an account of Captain Bobbitt's death on June 8, 1929. Excerpts from this account show additional insight into the character of this member of the family.

"Captain Bobbitt served in the Confederate army under General Robert E. Lee, with the 36th Virginia Cavalry, Jenkins Brigade, and was in the battles of Gettysburg and the Shenandoah valley. He was active in the Hillsboro Camp Confederate Veterans and for many years its commander.
