The Hill farm, the McCue farm, and the Bobbitt farm were all located in the Muddlety valley of Nicholas County. Even though some of the families were Methodists and some were Baptists, they all went to church on Sunday at a location called the "twin churches". The Methodist church and the Baptist church were built side by side on a meadow of the Muddlety river. All the families knew one another, and all the children were well acquainted. As in any community some families were wealthier than others, but all families were a welcome asset to the community. The McCue family was one of the largest families in the valley. They were wealthy, well educated, and active in all events of the county. Kyle McCue, a deeply religious man practically supported the Methodist church by himself. He had been married two times and each family was large. His second wife was a brilliant woman by the name of Carrie Weisenfield McCue. Kyle and Carrie McCue were the parents of Grace McCue.
Grace McCue was a tall, graceful woman. She was not beautiful, but she was charming and very interesting to talk with. She had perfect manners and was interested in people of all classes. She was an extremely intelligent woman. She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College and was a County Home Demonstration Agent and school teacher.
When Sterling Bobbitt was assigned a teaching job in Mercer County, he became better acquainted with Grace McCue who was teaching in the same county. They shared the journey back and forth from Nicholas County to Mercer County and also shared their interests in education.
James Sterling Bobbitt and Grace McCue were married on Thursday, December 6, 1926 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, West Virginia. The marriage became a perfect marriage and was the inspiration of many a young couple who followed their example.
Sterling and Grace Bobbitt had three sons. Their first son was born on November 19, 1927, died in infancy. Their second son was born January 18, 1930 and is named James McCue Bobbitt. Their third son was born May 5, 1935 and died in infancy.
Sterling and Grace Bobbitt were welcomed by both sides of their families. They were excellent guests and good company wherever they went. If the McCue family ever had doubts that Sterling Bobbitt was suitable for their daughter, they soon put away all such doubts.
