William Bobbitt from Wales married in England and left shortly thereafter for the Virginia colonies. He landed in Williamsburg Virginia and claimed 100 acres of land for paying the passage of himself and his wife to the colonies. The land he selected was located in present day Hopewell, Virginia near Petersburg. The family migrated from Prince George County, Virginia to what is today Pittsylvania County and lived near the Sandy Level, area. In 1782 the family again migrated to what is today Grayson County, Virginia.
