On February 19, 1813, Joshua Bobbitt married Patsy Haithcock in Warren County. His brother William Bobbitt was the bondsman. In the 1820 census Joshua and his new wife were listed.
1 male 45 & over (....-1775) 1 female 45 & over (....-1775)
As unusual as it may seem, Joshua and Patsy Bobbitt had one son, born apparently in 1821. The census of 1830 of Warren County listed the family as:
Joshua Bobbitt:
1 male 5 - 10 (1820-1825) 1 female 50 - 60 (1770-1780)
1 male 60 - 70 (1760-1770)
The son was named Miles Bobbitt but did not live to maturity. We know also that Patsey Bobbitt died before Joshua and that the estate of Joshua was left to his brothers and sisters.
A deed was recorded in December 1836, Book 27, page 280.
"William Bobbitt to Hixey Moore, both of Warren County. $15.00 for my interest in 48 acres belonging to the heirs of Joshua Bobbitt, deceased, land adjoining John B. Powell, Robert T. Cheek, And Bettie's heirs. Witnesses: Wm. C. Clanton, Samuel Bobbitt."
This deed shows that not only Joshua's first child and second wife were deceased, but that his second child was also deceased. The fact that "Bettie's heirs were to be considered shows that his daughter was named Betsey. In the 1840 census of Warren County, the first wife was listed under the name of Martha Bobbitt, and living with her were several of her grandchildren. We think that it is also significant that Samuel Bobbitt was a witness to the transaction. Samuel was a son of Miles and Susan (Gunn) Bobbitt. It is an indication that all of these family members were descended from Lewis Bobbitt.
In the chapter on Joshua Bobbitt's brother John Bobbitt there are deeds recorded that indicate the relationship of John and Joshua, as well as to other members of the family. In the deed above, William Bobbitt was married to Mary Plummer and was a brother of Joshua Bobbitt.
