This history and genealogy of the Bobbitt family in the United States of America was inspired by the legends handed down in the family from 1673 to the present day. Some of the legends were difficult to prove, but research for the facts has uncovered a wealthy American heritage for our Bobbitt family.
One may go from library to library and courthouse to courthouse in search of Bobbitt family records and find very little. Hundreds of indexes of books have been searched for the clues that have helped us to find our history.
In order to find our family history we had to study as many families and their branches as we could find from the early days to the present time. We had to know where they lived, what they did, where they went, how they were related. We wanted to know in what way they had served our government and civilization. We did not find everyone, many were lost in mysteries, many disappeared from the records, but all were traceable back to our common American origins. We have found our major ancestors, we have found their paths, and we have found the family history for the present day generations.
We are searching for those who have lived over the past three hundred years. We would like to think that the lives of all of these people who were married, struggled to Year a family, helped to build and protect a nation, improve the lot of the human race, preserve our Christian and family culture, will be remembered by more than a mound of earth or a weather-beaten grave marker.
It is important to know where we came from, what our heritage is, who helped us along the way, why we are here, and where we are going. What is worth remembering from our daily work and struggles. Who is worth remembering from all that the events that fashioned their lives from their fathers and forefathers.
There is in this work, errors of judgment, errors of sources, errors of association, and misunderstanding of incomplete records, but we have found our family history. We can work on the refinements of the genealogy for many years to come. We will find new answers and more information, better reasoning, better methods for compilations, and more interested persons who can strengthening the facts and add to our collection.
Interest in this work passes from one family member to another. Just as in the past, several members of the family had some fragments, some interesting information, some documentary proof, someone in our future will sort out, rewrite, and become the centralized depository for our Bobbitt family history.
All of my records, letters, and work sheets will be deposited with the National Genealogical Society. In this work you will find aids, maps, and inspiration to research the details of your branch of the family.
