JOHN W. BOBBITT       1806 - 1891      Son of Randolph and Nancy Bobbitt

John W. Bobbitt was born on June 5, 1806 in Campbell County, Kentucky. He was the third son of Randolph and Nancy Bobbitt. His parents went to Kentucky from Bedford County, Virginia sometime before 1800.

When John was sixteen years of age his father died leaving a large family to be cared for by his older brother James, and his step mother Polly Keen Bobbitt. By the 1820 census the family had scattered and only James Bobbitt was counted in the Campbell County census of 1830.

John Bobbitt married Mariah Ross of Boone County, Kentucky. According to Bible records the couple were married on May 31, 1832. The family was first counted in the census of 1840 in Boone County.

The oldest male and female are of course John and his wife Mariah Ross Bobbitt. The two sons born between 1835 and 1840 are Virgil born in 1836 and Elijah born in 1839. John who was born in 1838 died in 1839 before the census was taken. Nancy who was born in 1834 died in 1839 before the census. The daughter is Eliza M. Bobbitt born in 1839. The male born between 1810 and 1820 is a brother of John Bobbitt named Alfred Bobbitt.

The 1840 census of Kentucky in nearby counties to Campbell County gives an interesting picture of this family.
