Mrs. Bobbitt and her children belong to the Christian Church."
Hattie E. Bobbitt the youngest child of John G. and Martha Bobbitt wrote a letter to her cousin, Mildred Welsh, who lived in Kansas City, Missouri. The letter concerned family history and was dated February 11, 1917. The following excerpts are taken from this letter.
"Father said (John G. Bobbitt) that we are English and Welsh. Father is buried in the same cemetery as your great grandfather (William J. Bobbitt) a few miles out in the country (from Chapin, Illinois). My grandfather and his son, William Bobbitt, were born in North Carolina..... About 20 years ago a John Bobbitt visited us from Kentucky. A fine looking fellow. I corresponded with him and his sisters in Nashville Tennessee for some time, but finally lost track of them. I can just barely remember Uncle Mike (Christman) and Aunt Sallie Christman, but they were very old. Grandfather died when father was but a boy, but I remember grandmother tho I was but a small child when she died. There were 11 children of that family your grandfather (Elzorah) and Uncle Hardie being the youngest. Madison, Everett, John, William, Elzy, Hardie, Martilla Glover, Purity Sentry, Pollie Boyd, Elma Giddings and Betsy Giddings. Five of the Bobbitt relatives married Giddings . If ever you find a Bobbitt whether you care to or not, I doubt not you could run it back to a common ancestor........ A few years ago in the national year book of the Christian Church, there were five Bobbitt ministers listed. I was told that one of my Bobbitt cousins, a slave holder, when the war was over, took his slaves and went to Cuba, so there may be Bobbitts of more than one color.
truly, Aunt Hattie"
