ISHAM DRURY BOBBITT      1790 - 1865     Son of Isham and Elizabeth Bobbitt

Isham Drury Bobbitt was the last child and son of Isham and Elizabeth (James) Bobbitt. He was named after his father and an uncle, named Drury Bobbitt. His grandfather was John Richard Bobbitt of Warren County, North Carolina.

Isham Drury Bobbitt was born in 1790 in Spartanburg County District 96, South Carolina. When he was 13 years of age he moved with the family to Christian County, Kentucky.

On December 18, 1824, Isham Drury Bobbitt married Cynthia Ann Haggard in Trigg County, Kentucky. They were married by John W. Bobbitt, a minister of the Gospel, and an older brother of the groom. Cynthia Ann Haggard was a daughter of David and Nancy (Dawson) Haggard of Albemarle County, Virginia. David Haggard was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. The family of Isham and Cynthia was listed two times in the 1830 census. Once in Trigg County, Kentucky where we believe that Cynthia had gone to care for a grandfather who was over 100 years of age. They were also listed in the census of Christian County, Kentucky and this record better represents the entire family.

Isham Bobbitt:

1 male under 5 (1825-1830)                     1 female under 5 (1825- 1830)

1 male 30 - 40 (1790-1800)                     1 female 20 - 30 (1800-1810)

This record from Christian County shows Isham, Cynthia, their first son, William Bobbitt, and their daughter Teressa. Living next to the family was the family of John W. Bobbitt.

Shortly after the 1830 census was taken, Isham and his family moved to Clark County, Kentucky near a village called Winchester. Cynthia's relatives lived in the area, including her father and mother. Their second son, John William Bobbitt was born in Winchester in 1834. By 1834 the family had moved to Hancock County, Illinois, and were counted in the 1840 census of that county.

Isham Bobbitt:

1 male under 5 (1835-1840)      1 female under 5 (1835-1840)

1 male 5 10 (1830-1835)          1 female 10 - 15 (1825-1830)

1 male 40 50 (1790-1800)        1 female 30 - 40 (1800-1810)

This census shows the entire family with the exception of David Frank Bobbitt who was born in June 1840, apparently after this census was taken. In 1850 the family was living in Tazewell County Illinois. Teressa Bobbitt married Robert F. Haynes on. November 24, 1841 in Hancock County, and was not counted with the family in the 1850 census. William was away from home.
