INA BOBBITT NOEL      1881 - 1972     Daughter of James and Mary Bobbitt

Ina Bobbitt was born on January 29, 1881 at Dyer, in Gibson County, Tennessee. She was the sixth of the nine children of James Robert and Mary Suzanne (Orr) Bobbitt.

Ina Bobbitt taught schools in rural Tennessee after graduating from High School at Dyer. In April 1902 she moved to Denton, Texas to live near friends and for several years taught school in Pilot Point, Texas.

On January 6, 1909, Ina Bobbitt married James Latane Noel at Pilot Point, Texas. Mr. Noel was born near Lexington, Mississippi on January 31, 1875 and died at Pilot Point, Texas on December 17, 1969.

Mr. Noel was Mayor of Pilot Point from 1932 to 1935. He resigned as Mayor to become Postmaster in 1935. A portrait of James L. Noel hangs in the City Hall of Pilot Point.

Ina (Bobbitt) Noel continued to teach and continued to attain educational achievements. In 1936 at the age of 55, she graduated from the Teacher's College at Denton with a major in Elementary Education.

Ina was reared a Presbyterian but after her marriage became a member of the Methodist Church. As a descendant of Lewis Bobbitt, whose history is written in a separate chapter, Ina Noel, became a member of the Daughter of the American Revolution, Denton Chapter. Her national DAR number is 503175.

Allen Wade Mount, Sr. a cousin of Ina Noel wrote this about her in his book "Our Bobbitt Family".

"Ina Bobbitt Noel carried herself with a certain befitting dignity, is soft spoken, cultured and refined. She exhibits the gracious Southern Manner that is in keeping with the true nature of this distinguished and beloved lady."

James and Ina (Bobbitt) Noel had two children.

James L. Noel Jr. was appointed by President John F. Kennedy as a Federal Judge on March 17, 1962. He lives in Houston, Texas. David Bobbitt Noel heads his Insurance firm in Dallas, Texas. The two sons, gave Ina Noel, eight grandchildren which she was very proud of and frequently mentioned in her letters.
