All the records of any significance are from Warren County. The first record shows that for a small sum required for having a deed recorded, Samuel Bobbitt makes it possible to have a church, and to allow access to a spring for the needs of the people.

"Samuel Bobbitt to Abner Steed, Solomon Perdue, William Hays, Nathaniel Thomas, and Solomon G. Ward, Trustees, five dollars, for one acre of land, a portion of which Samuel Bobbitt now resides, at the path that leads from Milford road to the Bethany Church ( a log meeting house). Along a dividing line of Henry Cawthorn and of Samuel Bobbitt to the ridge way from Cawthorn's to said church, north to school house and east to Milford road, with use of the way to the spring, now used by persons attending the said place of worship and for use of said waters, for the use of building a house of worship for the use of the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the U. S. A."(DB-28, p. 276.) 1839

"Anthony Dowtain to his daughter Martha Ann (wife of Samuel Bobbitt) a gift of slaves, nine in all." November 22, 1847. (DB-29, p.410)

"Thomas P. Dowtain of Abbeville District, S. C. to Samuel Bobbitt, power of attorney, to collect what is due me from my father's will and pay it to my son in law George Womble and his wife Catherine." Feb. 11, 1847 (DB-29, p. 162)

In this next deed Miles Bobbitt father of Samuel Bobbitt is giving a slave to Samuel for one dollar so that the deed may be recorded.

"Miles Bobbitt to Samuel Bobbitt, $1.00 for a 35 year old slave, named Dick." March 3, 1853.

"March 1, 1855, Samuel Bobbitt, Trustee in surety bond to protect suretiship of Anthony Dowtain & Edward Williams who signed as surety for Sheriff's bond of Thomas J. Judkins after his reelection as Sheriff...." (DB-31, p.334)

"December 18, 1858, Samuel Bobbitt and his wife, Martha A. Bobbitt, Thomas A. Montgomery and his wife, Sarah H., and William A. Dowtain, heirs at law of the late Anthony Dowtain, deceased, to Samuel W. Dowtain all of Warren County, $1,200.00 for 460 acres of land, the dower land of Mrs. Mary H. Dowtain, widow of Anthony Dowtain, adjoining Samuel Bobbitt." (DB-31, p.962)
