"May 16, 1815. From Drury Bobbitt Senior, to Sheerwood Bobbitt of Halifax County, for 100 acres of land, joining the mouth of Lick Branch, the road, and former lands of Moseley on Ben's Creek." Witnesses: William Bobbitt, John Bobbitt."
The witnesses were William Bobbitt, son of Sheerwood, and John Bobbitt, brother of Sheerwood. This deed was made a year or two before Drury and John Bobbitt moved to Moore County.
After the death of Sheerwood Bobbitt, Sarah Bobbitt his wife, made her home with her son, Sheerwood Haywood Bobbitt Jr. On January 5, 1838, Sarah had a deed recorded in Halifax County in Book 31, on page 364, whereby she gave land that she inherited thru her husband, Sheerwood, from Drury Bobbitt Senior.
"From Sarah Bobbitt of Halifax County to Sheerwood H. Bobbitt, for the love and affection, I bear my son, 12 and 112 acres of land lying on Ben's Creek in Warren County, North Carolina."
William Bobbitt son of Sheerwood and Sarah Bobbitt married Sarah Allen. They had one son named William E. Bobbitt who was born in 1816. William Bobbitt, husband of Sarah Allen died in 1826 and Sarah lived with her son. On June 1, 1848, Sarah had recorded in Halifax County a deed giving her property to her son. The record is in Book 32, page 472. On the same date William E. Bobbitt gave all of his property to his mother. The reason being that William E. Bobbitt had lost his wife after the birth of only one daughter, Sarah Bobbitt. The daughter was reared by her grandmother.. William E. Bobbitt never remarried.
"William E. Bobbitt to Sarah Bobbitt of Halifax County, all my interest in the planes of my father, William Bobbitt, deceased, my interest being one third part." Witness: M. G. Allen."
Sheerwood Bobbitt Senior died on November 21, 1827 and the record was made in his military service benefit record to his widow, Sarah (Burrows) Bobbitt. The family cemetery in Halifax County does not have a marked grave for Sheerwood. The grave of Sarah is said to be marked and the space beside her grave was probably the grave of Sheerwood.
