There are several deeds recorded in Halifax County which explain the family relationships in this family. A deed recorded in Book 26, page 178, on May 5, 1823, tells much of the story of the Moss family.

"From Drury Bobbitt and his wife, Nancy Frances (MOSS) Bobbitt, and Thomas Bobbitt and his wife, Lucy H. (Moss) Bobbitt, all of Moore County, to Samuel Harper  of Halifax County, for 135 acres of land it being our two tenths share of a certain tract formerly the property of Richard Moss Senior, deceased."

William Bobbitt married Sarah Allen, and this record is in Deed Book 25, page 301 of Halifax County. The record is dated February 19, 1821.

"From William Bobbitt and Sally, his wife, of Halifax County, to Wood Jones Hamlin, of Halifax County for 46 acres of land on the south side of the Roanoke River, joining the river. it being land allotted to Sally Bobbitt as her share of the land of the deceased father, John Allen."
