DRURY  BOBBITT  IV      1779 - 1842     Son of John and Mary Bobbitt

Drury Bobbitt IV, was born in Warren County, North Carolina in 1779. He was a son of John and Mary (Hazelwood) Bobbitt. Drury was the fourth Bobbitt male of Warren County to be named "Drury" before the year of 1800. Drury Bobbitt IV, was a grandson of Drury and Elizabeth (Harris) Bobbitt, and a great grandson of John Richard and Amy (Alston) Bobbitt.

John Bobbitt and his family lived for a time in Sampson County, and for a time headed the family of Mary Hazelwood. We do not find John or Drury in the 1800 census records, or are unable to identify them.

On December 26, 1804, Drury Bobbitt IV, married Rebecca Burrow. Their first child was a daughter named Rebecca and she was born in 1805. Rebecca Burrow was a daughter of James Burrow. The family was listed in the 1810 census of Warren County.

Drury Bobbitt Junior:

1 male under 10 (1800-1810)                       1 female under 10 (1800-1810)

1 male 26 - 45 (1765-1784)                          1 female 16 - 26 (1784-1794)

                                                                             12 slaves

The first daughter was Rebecca Bobbitt born in 1805 and the first son was John James Bobbitt born in 1807 and named after his two grandfathers. In 1811, Drury and Rebecca Bobbitt had another son who was named Green IV. Bobbitt. Rebecca Bobbitt died in 1814 in Warren County. When Drury Bobbitt Senior was forced for financial reasons to leave Warren County and moved to Moore County, John Bobbitt and his son Drury Bobbitt IV and their families moved to Warren County in the year of 1816. In 1817, Drury Bobbitt married Frances Moss of Halifax County. The family is listed in the 1820 census of Moore County.

Drury Bobbitt Junior: (IV)

3 males under 10 (1810-1820)          1 female 10 - 16 (1804-1810)

1 male 10 - 16 (1804-1810)             1 female 26 - 45 (1775-1794)

1 male 26 - 45 (1775-1794)

This record shows the first three children of Drury and Rebecca Bobbitt and the first two sons of Drury and Frances (Moss) Bobbitt.

There is an interesting deed recorded in Halifax County, North Carolina in Deed Book 26, page 178, dated May 5, 1823, which explains much of the Bobbitt family history regarding Drury Bobbitt and the Moss family.
