Son of John and Permelia Bobbitt
Milton Bobbitt was the third son of John and Permelia Bobbitt. He was born in 1807 in Amherst County, Virginia. In 1818 the family moved from Amherst County to Rockbridge County, Virginia.
There is some confusion about the ancestry of Milton Bobbitt. He has been listed in some genealogical writings as being the son of Macpherson and Elizabeth (Taylor) Bobbitt of Bedford County. The descendants of John and Permelia Bobbitt knew that two of their sons remained in Rockbridge County when the family moved to Monroe County. It was thought that the names of the two sons was Isaac and Tolliver Bobbitt. The name of Tolliver came from a son of Tillman Bobbitt, named James Tolliver Bobbitt. The other son who remained in Rockbridge County was Milton Bobbitt. His name may have been Milton Tolliver Bobbitt but there is no evidence that he had a middle name.
The first record of a Bobbitt living in Rockbridge County was the tax list on which John Bobbitt was listed. The list was taken on March 6, 1818 and John was listed as a family with no males over 16 other than himself.
In 1820 the first and only Bobbitt family to be listed in the census records of Rockbridge County was the family of John and Permelia Bobbitt.
