Charles Harris Bobbitt was the second son of John and Patience (Harris) Bobbitt. He was a grandson of Charles and Rachel (Edgerton) Harris, and a grandson of Miles and Mary (Powell) Bobbitt. Charles Harris Bobbitt was born in Warren County, North Carolina in 1797.

The first record of Charles Bobbitt was in the census of 1830 taken in Warren County. Charles was living on land adjoining the plantation of his parents, John and Patience Bobbitt.

After Dorothy Frances died, Evelyn Bobbitt married Thomas Jefferson Hamill, but they did not have any children. Frank Alston Bobbitt was married three times. His first spouse was a black woman named Susan Adams. His first legal marriage was to Adaline S. Allen in Halifax County on February 10, 1851. His last wife was Mary L. Baker who was born in Connecticut. There is a separate chapter on the life of Frank Alston Bobbitt,
