Drury Bobbitt, son of Stephen Stephen Bobbitt Senior
John Bobbitt
Captain Snow is believed to have married one of the daughters of Drury Bobbitt Senior. In the tax list Captain Snow makes the error of listing Holly Bobbitt as a "Bobbitt" when she was at the time the widow of William Burrows Junior. Holly Bobbitt was a daughter of John and Mary (Hazelwood) Bobbitt.
There were four "Drury Bobbitt" families in North Carolina. They were closely related and some were near the same ages. It is sometimes difficult to keep them separated in our family history.
1. Drury Bobbitt Senior, born in 1744, married Elizabeth Harris in 1761, lived in Warren County until 1815 and moved to Moore County, where he died in 1826.
2. Drury Bobbitt Junior, born in 1773, son of Drury and Elizabeth Bobbitt. Lived in Sampson, Warren, and Orange counties of North Carolina. Moved to Maury County, Tennessee where he died in 1838.
3. Drury Bobbitt, born in 1786, was a son of Stephen and Celah Bobbitt. He married Sarah Bradley in 1818 in Warren County, and moved to Williamson County, Tennessee. He died in 1839. He had a son Drury who lived in Weakley County, Tennessee.
4. Drury Bobbitt IV, born in 1794, was a son of John and Mary (Hazelwood) Bobbitt of Warren County. He was a grandson of Drury Bobbitt Senior. He married Frances Moss in 1818. He lived in Moore County until the death of Drury Bobbitt Senior in 1826. In that year he moved to Butler County, Kentucky where he died in 1842.
By 1850 there were only two "Drury Bobbitt" family members with the name. One was Drury Richard Bobbitt who lived in Butler County, Kentucky, and one was Drury James Bobbitt who lived in Gibson County, Tennessee. The name "Drury" was often used as a middle name by many members of the Bobbitt family. It was first used by Drury Bobbitt Senior of Warren County, North Carolina.
