It is apparent that John Bobbitt lived on Smith's Creek and also on nearby Tabb's Creek. It was while he was living on Smith's Creek that John met and married the daughter of John Rush, who was named Margaret. Margaret Rush was born on February 24, 1785 (from the family Bible) and was married in 1809 in Granville County. The marriage is not recorded.
In 1809 another deed was recorded which is interesting and involves several members of this family.
"December 27, 1809, From Britton Bobbitt of Granville County to John Bobbitt of the same for $350.00 - 100 acres of land in Granville County, joining Lawrence, Nuttall, Fletcher, and the creek (Smith's Creek). Witnesses: Turner Bobbitt, John Bobbitt. February Court 1810, Book T, p.420."
This is the last deed recorded in North Carolina in which Britton Bobbitt is mentioned. He was counted in the 1810 census and shortly thereafter moved to Tennessee along with several of his brothers, cousins, and other relatives. Turner Bobbitt, along with his son John B. Bobbitt of Franklin County were the witnesses to this deed. Only two Bobbitt families were listed in the census of 1810 in Granville County and they were related.
1 male 16 - 26 (1784-1794) 1 female 16 - 26 (1784-1794)
3 males 26 -45 (1765-1784)
This is Britton Bobbitt born about 1780 and his wife Fanny (Finch) Bobbitt, who were married November 12, 1803. The others living here are brothers of Britton Bobbitt. Green Bobbitt married Barbara Finch on June 8, 1813 in Granville County and later moved to Maury County, Tennessee where he was listed in the 1830 census.
1 male 26 - 45 (1765-1784) 1 female under 10 (1800-1810)
1 female 10 - 16 (1794-1800)
1 female 16 - 26 (1784-1794)
14 slaves
John was born in 1785 and Margaret (Rush) Bobbitt was born in 1785, their daughter Anabella E. Bobbitt was born October 27, 1810. The other female listed here* is probably a sister of Margaret's. Note the great wealth of John in owning 14 slaves.
