In the late 1700s and early 1800s few persons, especially
males, were given a middle name. Some were given middle initials
that had no particular meaning. In one instance John Bobbitt is
recorded as having the middle initial of "P". We think that the
"P" meant Person, which was his mother's maiden name. In church
records John is noted with the middle initial of "N". If we are
interpreting the writing correctly, there is some confusion. I
doubt that John had a middle name and he may have used one or more
middle initials that he adopted on his own. It was not uncommon
for people of this time to adopt two or three middle initials
or middle names.
The Bobbitt lineage of John Bobbitt is:
William Bobbitt from Wales 1645 - 1703 Joanna Sturdivant
William Bobbitt Junior 1675 - 1738 Mary Green
Lewis Bobbitt Senior 1703 - 1769 Elizabeth Moore
Lewis Bobbitt Junior 1742 - 1818 Mary Person
John Bobbitt 1789 - 1866 Nancy Huse (Hughes)
John Bobbitt born in 1789 in North Carolina, died May 1866
Married in 1808 probably in Tennessee to
Nancy Huse (Hughes) born in 1793 in Kentucky, died March 1871
