March 11, 1760
John Earl Granville, Vicount Carteret and Baron Carteret of Hawness in the County of Bedford, Kingdom of Great Britain, to John Bobbitt of Granville County, Planter, Parish of St. John. 175 acres of land on both sides of Fishing Creek, the great Branch, in Thomas Williams line.
This is John Richard Bobbitt and he is living near the plantation of Lewis Bobbitt on land that is in present day Warren County North Carolina.
Granted to Lewis Bobbitt of Granville County, Planter. 531 acres of land on the south side of Reedy Creek.... William Dukes line...by Persons line....
The two deeds above have caused us to previously think that John Bobbitt was the son of Lewis Bobbitt. It is important to keep in mind that when Lewis Bobbitt came to North Carolina he joined his double first cousin, William Bobbitt Senior, son of John Bobbitt of Chowan. The son of William Senior, John Bobbitt, was well established in the Bobbitt compound. The deed to John Bobbitt, Planter, is sufficient proof that in 1760 John was an established, mature man.
William Bobbitt the son of John Richard Bobbitt was born in 1761. The date is from William Bobbitt's pension application. We do not have to be concerned with this William Bobbitt until 1781.
Lewis Bobbitt of Granville County to William Bobbitt of Granville County, 160 acres of land for 29 pounds, land in Granville County on the south side of Reedy Creek, joining Lewis Bobbitt. Witnesses: William Person, John Edwards. (Granville County Book F, page 369.)
This is William Bobbitt the son of Lewis Bobbitt. He is granted land joining the land of Lewis Bobbitt and from the tax lists in the coming years it was the land that William lived on the rest of his life. The land is in present day Warren County. This land granted to William was from his father to the eldest son.
Bute County was formed from Granville County in 1764. The land records above will not be in Granville County in the future. The land reference now will be in Bute County. Bute County was discontinued in 1779 and part of it was used to form Warren County.
