"Simon Beckham, to John Bobbitt, 645 acres of land on both sides of Lynches Creek, adjoining, Jones, Railey, Strother, and Tharrington."
John Bobbitt had to be over 16 and near to 20 years of age to make this legal purchase. He had to have some wealth of his own and some aid from his father. The land was in what is today Franklin County, North Carolina. After the purchase of this land John Bobbitt Junior was living on this land in 1777. The deed which tells us this was recorded in Bute County, Book 6, page 110.
"Joseph Williams, to John Huckaby, 200 acres of land on Beckham's Pigpen Branch, adjoining Maurice Railey, John Bobbitt, and Jones."
In 1777, John Richard Bobbitt and his son, John Bobbitt Junior were the only two who could have been old enough to make a point of history with this deed. John Richard never lived in Franklin County. Bute County became Franklin County in 1779.
On September 29, 1774, John Bobbitt Junior mortgaged the 645 acres of land to Henry Hill. (Recorded in Book 5, page 150 of Bute County records.)
In 1777, the 645 acres of land was sold according to two deeds recorded in Bute County, Book 6, pages 162 and 304.
"John Bobbitt to Thomas Huse, 400 acres of land for 180 pounds of Virginia money, land on said Bobbitt's Spring Branch to Old Court House Road, adjoining, Jones, Tharrington, and Railey. Witnesses: William Smith, Joseph Williams, and Ransom House, Jr."
"John Bobbitt to Richard Jones, 245 acres of land for 150 pounds of procolmation money, land on the east side of Lynches Creek to Pine Log Branch and Bells road, adjoining, Strother, Tharrington, and Railey. Witnesses: R. Wynne. Acknowledged by, John Bobbitt."
In these deeds the names of Jones and Williams are interesting. Lewelling and Catherine Jones had a daughter named, Sarah. Sarah Jones married Huckey Williams. They had one son named John Williams. Huckey Williams died. In 1770, John Bobbitt married Sarah (Jones) Williams, the widow of Huckey Williams.
