JOHN BOBBITT       1763 - 1837      Son of Miles and Mary Bobbitt

John Bobbitt was born in 1763 on land that is today in Warren County, North Carolina. He was a son of Miles and Mary (Powell) Bobbitt. He was a grandson of Lewis Bobbitt who went to North Carolina from Virginia in 1753.

Miles Bobbitt lived in land that joined the land of Daniel Harris. In the Harris family there was a Charles Harris who married Rachel Edgerton. Charles and Rachel Harris had a daughter named Patience Harris who married John Bobbitt. They also had a daughter named Elizabeth Harris who married Randolph Bobbitt, a son of John Richard Bobbitt. The two marriages joined the two branches of the Bobbitt family in North Carolina, since each of the Bobbitt males was from a different branch of the family then living in North Carolina.

Patience Harris was born in what was called Bute County in 1765. She married John Bobbitt on January 16, 1789 in what was called Warren County. Their first child was a daughter, named Rachel Edgerton Bobbitt born in October 1789.

The first record of the family was in the 1800 census of Warren County.

The record shows John Bobbitt, born in 1763, Patience Bobbitt, born in 1765, Rachel Bobbitt, born in 1789, Frances Ann Bobbitt, born in 1790, John Bobbitt, born in 1792, Charles Harris Bobbitt, born in 1797. 

The family in the 1810 census was counted in Warren County.

The record shows that John Bobbitt is not at home, and that an additional daughter named Winifred was born in 1800. The family of John and Patience Bobbitt was made up of two sons and three daughters. All the children lived to maturity. All lived their lives in Warren and Halifax Counties of North Carolina.
