John Bobbitt died at the age of 50 without a will. The court appointed his brother, Lewis C. Bobbitt as administrator. Lewis Bobbitt, son of John, was in Alabama at the time, later moved to Texas, and apparently was not informed about the matters of his fathers estate. The other sons were to young to be considered as administrators.
On May 9, 1825 there was a settlement of a dispute between the heirs of John R. Bobbitt and his mother, Elizabeth (Harris) Bobbitt. The settlement was recorded in Book 25, page 156.
"From Presley C. Person, high sheriff of Franklin County, paid to Elizabeth (Harris) Bobbitt of Franklin County, goods, chattels, land and tenants of the heirs of John R. Bobbitt, for damages, debts, and costs. Witnesses: Fredrick H. Bobbitt."
After John R. Bobbitt died in 1823, his mother who had been living with John, moved to Franklin County to live with her son Frederick H. Bobbitt. She lived near her son Lewis C. Bobbitt who was living in Franklin County at the time. The census record of the family in 1830 of Warren County shows that Elizabeth (Darden) Bobbitt remained in Warren County and was living with her youngest son, Anthony Bobbitt born in 1813.
1 male 10 - 15 (1815-1820) 1 female 20 - 30 (1800-1810)
1 male 15 - 20 (1810-1815) 1 female 50 - 60 (1770-1780)
The male 15 to 20 is Anthony Bobbitt aged 17, and the female 50 to 60 is Elizabeth (Darden) Bobbitt aged 50. We do not know who the others are, but think it must be a married daughter of Elizabeth's with her son, probably visiting at the time, later records indicate that it may have been her daughter-in-law named Martha Bobbitt, widowed, and later living in Orange County.
In 1840, Elizabeth (Darden) Bobbitt is counted in the census of Orange County, North Carolina. The family of Anthony Bobbitt is listed but Anthony born in 1813 is not at home. The older man in the family must be his father-in-law, the female 20 to 30, his wife, and the others his children. Note the census records.
no males 1 female 50 - 60 (1780-1790)
Immediately after Elizabeth is listed the family of Anthony.
