This letter from Susan Perry was written from Houston Texas to Dr. 0. H. Bobbitt in 1937.
I am afraid that I know very little about my ancestors, excepting cousins. My grandfather's name was Tilman Bobbitt. I think he had a brother named Oregon Bobbitt and one named Tolliver. I may be mistaken about Tolliver. My mother, Eliza had a brother, Jim, George, Joe and William. George went to North Platte, Nebraska, when there were still Indians living there. Uncle Jim went to Texas, his son Joseph still lives there I think, last I heard he was doing well, his address is Hillsboro, Texas. Grandfather had a nephew, James Bobbitt, in North Platte, he is dead now. He was sent there when the Union Pacific Railroad was being built. He was a machinist there for about 60 years. Almost killed him when they pensioned him. He has two daughters living in North Platte now. Uncle Jim married Katie Alderson from Virginia. Her father, they used to say, was the homeliest man, God ever made. I did not know there were any Bobbitts in Chicago. I never heard of any, only our gang. Plenty of Bobbitts. There was a Gibson Bobbitt in Virginia, think he was a brother of my grandfathers.
Susan Perry had pictures of Tilman Bobbitt, George Bobbitt, and William Bobbitt. She had other family pictures which she shared with Robert Lee Bobbitt. The pictures were misplaced after Susan died, and we have not been able to locate them.
In spite of or because of the hardships endured by Tilman Bobbitt, his descendants are among the finest people in the Bobbitt family. Many were and are highly accomplished professional leaders and have contributed much to the growth and success of the country.
