Before we study the Bobbitt-Wynne family connections, we should note the record from Brunswick County, marriage records, Order Book X;269, Lucy Bobbitt, administrarix of Thomas Bobbitt, married to Robert Wynne on March 25, 1767.
The Wynne family is recorded in the Bristol Parish register, and there are numerous entries in the Albemarle Parish register. It was a large family in the colonial history of Surry and Sussex Counties. Robert Wynne Senior was born in 1696. He was sheriff of Surry County in 1716. His father before him was a Justice of the Peace, in Charles City County in 1661. Robert Wynne Junior, the one that Lucy Bobbitt married, was listed as a coroner for Surry County in 1726, and also listed as a Justice of the Peace. Robert Wynne Junior received a land grant of 475 acres in 1723. In the tax lists of 1782, Robert Wynne was listed as head of household with 10 white souls and 9 black souls.
Lucy Bobbitt Wynne must have been born in 1730, married our Thomas Bobbitt in 1751, was a widow in 1759 and married Robert Wynne in 1767. Apparently her last child was born in 1775 when she was 45 years of age. The Albemarle Parish Register lists the family as follows:
Buckner Wynne born January 21, 1760, no sponsors.
Betty Wynne born February 26, 1761, sponsors: Mose Knight, Mary Sturdivant, Mildred Wynne.
Lucy Wynne born December 18, 1762, Sponsors: Wm. Stewardt, Mary Stewardt, Judith Tucker
Robert Wynne born May 20, 1764, Peter Threewits, Wm. Sturdivant, Amy Threewitts.
Mathew Wynne born July 3, 1765, Mathew Wynne, Wm. Wynne, Eleanor Hobbs.
Children from here on would be those of Lucy and Robert by their second marriage in 1767.
Peter Wynne born October 11, 1769, Thomas Parham,Hollum Sturdivant, Sarah Wynne.
Threewit Wynne born January 8, 1771, John Sturdivant, Lucy Parker.
Steth Wynne born April 25, 1773, Drury Parton, Fred Freeman, Elizabeth Sturdivant.
Nancy Wynne born May 7, 1775, Mose Knight, Mary Sturdivant, Mildred Wynne.
Peter Threewit must have been a well liked and respected relative. He was frequently honored by families naming their offspring after him or his wife Amy (Bobbitt) Threewit.
Missing from the above list is the name of Thomas Wynne, who was the son of Lucy and Robert Wynne. He was born in 1767 or 1768 and was a half brother to John Bobbitt of Sussex County, Virginia.
