Orange County, Indiana Tombstone Collection

by

Vickie L. Tolbert

In August, 2002, Vickie planned a trip to Orange County, Indiana to visit cemeteries and take photos.  Vickie wrote, "I am going to Paoli, Indiana (Orange County).  I have plans to go back to Cook's Chapel Cemetery.  I have not been into Apple Chapel Cemetery, but do know its location.  I need to go there.  I want to go to all of the following ones also, but I am not positive of the directions to them.  I am going to do my best to go to each of them though.  Bledsoe, Valeene, Young's Creek, Marengo, Scarlet Ridge, and Moore's Ridge.  If you know the directions to any of them, or if you need/want pictures from any of them, let me know.  I am going to be there for almost a week and will do the best I can.  I plan on going to the county offices and getting the correct directions."

Hello Keith,
The picture you labeled "I can't read this one" is the one I originally thought was Cornesia. Upon
enhancing the photo on my computer, I could clearly read it. The stone
reads "Cornelia born Mar. 3,1885....died Aug. 14, 1885" Also on the stone
is "John H. born Oct. 1, 1881....died Apr. 3, 1885" On the bottom of the
stone reads "Children of I (i) and F.J. Bobbitt" This stone was also at
Williams Cemetery in Crawford County.

John H. Bobbitt - Williams Cemetery, Crawford County, Indiana

John H. Bobbitt stone when enhanced reads "John H. Bobbitt born June 3, 1818....died
Jan 6, 1892"

Catharine Bobbitt, wife of John H. Bobbitt - Williams Cemetery, Crawford County, Indiana

Catharine Bobbitt stone when enhanced also reads "Catharine Bobbitt
born Mar. 3, 1816...died Mar. 18, 1900".

Luther Bobbitt stone reads "Luther son of I (i) and F.J. Bobbitt
born Feb. 13, 1888 ...died Aug. 24, 1890" This stone is also at Williams
Cemetery.

also read on the top of the stone "Little Nellie" but would not come up on
the photos.

When she returned from the trip, she wrote, "I am glad to hear you are pleased with the photos.  I have some more that you will probably be interested in.  Hughes, Goble, Gobble, Goebel, among others.  If you tell me which ones you particularly are interested in, I can see if I got them or not.  I took well over 2000 photos while on my trip.  Unfortunately though, it decided to rain too much to continue at times.  I will keep in touch.  And if you have any you think I might be able to use, I would welcome them.
My trip was great except for the rain.  I even found a few unexpected on my fathers side of the tree.  3rd and 4th great grandparents.  I was shocked by certainly pleased!  Have a wonderful day!"

We give a big thank you for the wonderful photos and information contributed by Vickie.

The End...
